Trump Repaid Cohen For Daniels Payment - Giuliani

When host Sean Hannity asked if Trump was aware of the payments to Daniels, Giuliani said the president was aware of the arrangement, but not specifics.

Cohen said he used a home equity loan in order to pay off Daniels, whose given name is Stephanie Clifford.

Trump's attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani on Wednesday night confirmed what Trump and Michael Cohen conspicuously and curiously wouldn't deny: Trump reimbursed Cohen for the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels.

Avenatti tells MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that "there are serious consequences" if payments made through "law firm invoices for make-believe work or work that everyone always knew was never going to be performed" were submitted for reimbursement by the president for the $130,000 hush money to Daniels. Like I take care of things like this for my clients.

Andrew Herman, an attorney specializing in campaign finance law at Miller & Chevalier, said Giuliani's argument that this was a private payment unrelated to the campaign appears to be "pretty far-fetched" given the timing - weeks before the election while Trump was under fire for his behavior with women and for an "Access Hollywood" tape in which he spoke of groping women without their consent.

When asked by reporters on 5 April if he knew about the payment to Ms Daniels, Mr Trump responded, "No".

The records provide evidence that Daniels was discussing an agreement with Cohen on October 10, 2016, shortly before the payment was made and just weeks before the November presidential election, CNN reported.

Meanwhile, Michael Avenatti, attorney for Daniels, tweeted his reaction to Giuliani's "Hannity" comments.

Giuliani says: "Cohen didn't even ask".

Noting that Giuliani's interview "was amazing" and "very encouraging to me", Dhillon said it was refreshing to see that the Trump team is "smartening up and girding for battle".

Trump has denied Daniels' claims of an affair in 2006.

Daniels is suing Trump because he didn't sign the agreement, which she argues nullifies the arrangement, leaving her free to discuss the affair. Daniels says that Cohen was acting on behalf of Trump to keep her quiet to avoid a scandal and that he had her sign an agreement not to talk about her relationship with Trump.

But Giuliani also suggested that Trump may have forgotten about the transaction at some point.

Last month, a federal judge in Los Angeles granted a 90-day stay in Daniels' original lawsuit, because Cohen may face a possible indictment in the criminal investigation by the FBI.

"I think he was trying to help the family", Giuliani said of Cohen.

In his Fox interview Wednesday night, Giuliani referred to the FBI agents who searched Cohen's home, office and hotel room as "storm troopers", a particularly harsh term, considering Giuliani once served as the USA attorney in NY, overseeing federal law enforcement agents.

New Trump attorney Rudolph Giuliani went on Sean Hannity tonight and chose to completely blow up on of Donald Trump's many legal cases.

The new lawyer, Emmet T Flood, will replace Ty Cobb, the White House lawyer who persuaded Trump to cooperate with the special counsel for the first year of its investigation, the report said.

The net effect of the disclosure, the source said, is that it takes any potential Federal Election Commission violation off the table as Trump paid the money from his personal funds.
