Apple finally addresses microphone issues for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus

Apple is addressing a problem with the iPhone X's Face ID - the best facial recognition technology in smartphones - where users would get an error saying "Face ID is not available, try again later". Although limited, Apple acknowledged that there is a microphone problem on some iPhone 7 handsets.

Late last week, it came to light that Apple has asked its Authorized Service Providers to fix iPhone 7 series phones with disabled microphones (caused by iOS 11.3 or later updates).

The tech giant reportedly has sent a support document to retailers and authorised service centres addressing this issue. But the fact is that several users on different regions have witnesses that when their rear camera fails, their Face ID also stops responding. Apple has instructed the service providers to run audio diagnostics if the speaker button remains greyed out. Apple has claimed that this new Face ID should replace the conventional Touch ID that was introduced with the iPhone 5s. And if that does not turn out to be the case, the employee has to perform a simple unit replacement for the customer.

Tech website MacRumours has reported that an internal Apple document has noted that "customers may experience a grayed-out speaker button during phone calls".

According to a Reddit user, there could be some connection between the functioning of the iPhone X's camera and front TrueDepth system, but what is it, is not clear.

Customers having issues with face ID can book an appointment with an Apple authorized service provider or Apple store via Apple support page. There was no immediate solution to the problem at the time, but Apple's resolution should certainly bring some relief to affected users. However, if you're among those among the affected iPhone 7 users, you should visit your nearby Apple authorized service center to fix this. The lenses differ on what they do. The wide angle did those who worked and is joined to the front-facing camera.

One Reddit user explained the conversation he had with a Genius Bar personnel - "I was talking to the Genius Bar guy and he said that the cameras are connected".
