Atty. Gen. Sessions Vows to Prosecute All Who Illegally Cross Border

"Today, we're here to send a message to the world that we're not going to let the country be overwhelmed", Sessions said in San Diego.

Families seeking asylum and presenting themselves at official US border crossings will be allowed to stay together as they seek protected status, according to a USA official familiar with the new policy.

"The Attorney General directed the U.S. Attorney's offices to adopt a zero-tolerance policy for all offenses referred for prosecution", a Homeland Security official told The Wall Street Journal.

"If you cross the border unlawfully, even a first offense, then we're going to prosecute you", Sessions said.

"If you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, then we will prosecute you", the attorney general flatly stated. "The second situation when we separate is when we prosecute". "If you don't want your child to be separated, then don't bring them across the border illegally".

Sessions noted that the Department of Justice will send 35 prosecutors and 18 immigration judges to the Southwest, equating to a roughly 50 percent increase in the number of judges hearing asylum cases. "But we can not take everyone on Earth who is in a hard situation".

"This administration is set on tearing families apart, detaining immigrants without justification, leaving US -born children without their parents and stoking fear in immigrant communities, all while siphoning off taxpayer dollars to fund a divisive and ineffective wall", according to a DNC statement.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is expected to speak at 3 p.m., Central Time, Monday in San Diego near the U.S. border with Mexico.

Considering that the rates of illegal crossing across the border have already dropped during the Trump Administration, this new measure only seeks to continue to establish fear and terror in the shoes of so many immigrants who desperately seek to save their lives and those of their children when crossing the border "illegally".
