Detroit Tigers topple Seattle Mariners, 5-4

Early in Sunday's game between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers, Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano was forced to exit the contest after being hit in the hand. The Mariners later announced that he was diagnosed with a fractured fifth metacarpal on his right hand.

Detroits Blaine Hardy allowed two runs and eight hits in 4 1/3 innings in his first major league start after 167 relief appearances.

Andrew Romine was the pinch runner for Cano and stayed in at second base in his place.

Cano is batting.287 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season for Seattle.

Kyle Seager homered for Seattle, and Goodrum went deep for the Tigers (17-22).

After a prolonged stretch where all of their position players were healthy and contributing, the Mariners lost Robinson Cano for Sunday's game and many games to come. They didn't say anything about how long I might be out, but it is broken bad, so there might be surgery, " Cano said after the Mariners' 5-4 loss to the Tigers.

Castellanos got hit in his left hand with a pitch Saturday and the team is calling it a "finger contusion". Wade LeBlanc (0-0) of Seattle pitches opposite Jake Odorizzi (3-2).
