North Korea threatens to cancel meeting with Trump

Kim arrived in South Korea in 2011 but has been asking the government here to send her back to the North, claiming that she was duped by a broker.

President Donald Trump and North Korean's Kim Jong Un have a planned June 12 meeting in Singapore, the first such encounter between a sitting USA president and a North Korean leader.

North Korea has cancelled high-level talks with South Korea because of anger over military exercises, state media reports. It said the dismantling would take place between May 23 and 25.

A North Korean mouthpiece in Japan on Monday demanded the return of a group of North Korean women who defected from a restaurant in China in 2016. The reporters will then be transported by a chartered train to the nuclear test site in Punggye-ri.

"When Kim Jong Un sees President Trump in Singapore, he should give something big", the security adviser, Moon Chung-in, said at a Tokyo conference, referring to the North Korean leader. The officials from both sides would meet in the Panmunjom border village in the Peace House inside the demilitarized zone (DMZ) dividing the two Koreas, Xinhua quoted a statement as saying. The discussions may also include setting up working-level talks between the countries' sports officials over plans to field combined teams in some sports at the Asian Games in August. They also agreed to stop all hostile acts over "land, sea and air" that can cause military tensions and clashes, and to resume temporary reunions between war-separated families.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Sunday that Washington would agree to lift sanctions on North Korea if the country agrees to completely dismantle its nuclear weapons program, a move that would create economic prosperity that "will rival" that of South Korea.
