Antoine Griezmann secures 'dream' Europa League triumph with Atletico Madrid

Marseille were 1-0 down when Payet was forced off after Atleti pounced on a poor touch from Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for Antoine Griezmann's opener. Now we are in the UEFA Super Cup, so he could play four finals with us.

Marseille kicked off the clash in a thoroughly old school manner, with Dimitri Payet launching the ball far into the opposition half and out of play.

Marseille struggled to contain their opponents for the rest of the half, although substitute Kostas Mitroglou, once of Fulham, hit the post late on with a terrific towering header. On Wednesday, Griezmann's first goal of the night albeit came from a defensive error on Marseille's part, but it completely took the sails out of the French side.

And it was left to the captain Gabi to crown the result when he fired in a third minutes before the end, which allowed Fernando Torres to come on as he won his first ever trophy with Atletico.

"We've always said the best way to get back to winning ways is by persisting".

If this is to be Griezmann's final big game for Atletico, then the France global delivered in a huge way - making a case that he could well be the world's third-best individual player. "Atletico are a great team and we have no reason to be ashamed of this loss".

"Now is not the time to talk about my future", the France global told reporters after being named man of the match.

Team Diego Simone scored three unanswered goals in the gate "Marseilles" and became the victor of the Europa League of the season 2017-2018.

The scoreline mirrored the Spanish side's last Europa League final win over Athletic Bilbao in 2012 and cemented their status as one of the continent's most consistent teams since Argentine coach Diego Simeone transformed their fortunes.

"They were very attacking, worked well, but we were also doing our thing", he said. But he has been excellent through 2018 and decisive in each round of this competition, scoring the key away goal in the semi-final first leg and assisting Costa's clincher in the return leg against Arsenal.

"It is a dream for me to win a title".

"Antoine - if he stays we'll continue to grow and develop", the Argentinian said.
