Man United Close To Making Fred A Red

With the rumour mill heading into overdrive, we take an in-depth look at Fred, his qualities, and what he can bring to Manchester United.

Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred has attracted interest from a number of clubs following his performances over the past two seasons.

Brazil midfielder Fred said he is fully focused on the World Cup despite admitting talks over a summer move to Manchester United are at "an advanced stage". According to Gianluca Di Marzio, United will pay 50 million euros for the 25 year old.

The 25-year old has been picked as a member of the Brazil's 23-member squad for the FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation this summer and Mourinho is intent on getting the deal wrapped up before the showpiece event kicks off.

Fred told reporters: "There was a possible transfer to City".

The Red Devils have been starved of a tempo-dictating centre midfielder since peak Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, and Fred has all the attributes to be a top-quality addition to the United middle-ground as Carrick departs.

The midfielder was the subject of an approach from Premier League champions City in the winter but the Ukrainian outfit rejected the bid.

"He will cost the potential buyer more than Fernandinho and be even more expensive than Alex Teixeira".

For any Reds who may be passing by, we asked a specialist in eastern bloc football, Manuel Veth, about Fred during his links to City, and you can listen to that podcast below. Their closest rivals, Manchester City and Liverpool enjoyed great success in the 2017/18 campaign.

Toby Alderweireld is also on Mourinho's radar, with Tottenham said to be demanding a fee in the region of £75 million for the Belgian centre-back.

Fred played an important role in Shakhtar's title win in Ukraine this season.
