Ancelotti named as new Napoli coach

Earlier on Wednesday, Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis praised Sarri for his contribution to the club.

Maurizio Sarri has been made odds-on favourite to succeed Antonio Conte as Chelsea boss after his departure from Napoli was confirmed.

La Repubblica put the breakdown as €5m in basic salary plus bonuses.

Italy global Insigne lauded the capture of ex-AC Milan boss Ancelotti - a Serie A and Champions League victor during his tenure at San Siro - as Napoli look to take the next step in 2018-19 and claim their first Scudetto since 1990.

There is also speculation that Ancelotti would ask for Bayern enforcer Arturo Vidal.

Carlo Ancelotti has been named as the new coach of Napoli and has agreed a two year deal with an optional third, the club have announced.

The 59-year-old joined Napoli three years ago and had been under contract until 2020.

Sarri's agent is due to arrive in London shortly for talks with Chelsea, however the experienced coach said to feel alarmed that he is yet to receive a concrete offer from the Premier League side.

Napoli finished as Serie A runners-up in 2017-18 despite posting a club-record 91 points, Juventus winning the Scudetto for the seventh year in a row.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss had been heavily linked to the Italian national team but that role went to Roberto Mancini in the end.

Everything in life ends and it is better to finish things after writing a lovely story. Sarri's brand of thrilling attacking football has won him many plaudits across Europe, with a number of top clubs taking notice.

Sarri, who has never won a trophy with any team during his 13-year coaching career which has been exclusively in Italy, has also been linked with Chelsea.
