White House Announces Venue for Trump-Kim Summit in Singapore

The meeting is being hailed as the summit of the year. The two have met many-a-time since, including a trip in June of 2017.

Trump told reporters at an Oval Office event that plans for what will be the first meeting between a serving U.S. president and a North Korean leader, were "moving along very well". Kim, who allegedly had his older half-brother assassinated in Malaysia a year ago and is rumored to have an open contract on his nephew's head, has always been concerned with consolidating and maintaining the power left to him by his father, so personnel changes aimed at ensuring he remains the nation's Supreme Leader are perfectly in keeping with Kim's historic behavior. Trump responded by calling Kim "Little Rocket Man" and threatening to "totally destroy" his nation. Yun cautioned that the Kim-Trump talks would have to "concentrate on denuclearization above all else".

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un will reportedly continue their unusual bromance at the much-anticipated summit in Singapore.

Bolton ruffled some feathers in April by speculating that the Trump administration was "looking at the Libya model of 2003, 2004" as part of potential negotiations with North Korea.

Risch's criteria for success will likely fall short for lawmakers who have seen North Korea offer similarly vague promises in the past, only to back away after securing concessions.

The White House, State Department, CIA and Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not immediately respond to requests for official comment.

The country remains technically at war after hostilities in the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty, and Kim's father and predecessor Kim Jong Il expounded a "Songun" or "military-first" policy that is a foundational plank of the North's ideology. Observers point out that this could indicate Putin's interest in holding a summit with Kim and wishing to give some input on the situation on the Korean Peninsula. However, the possibility of North Korea holding such a trilateral or bilateral summit is being kept open.

Newspaper Donga Ilbo reported Tuesday Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party, had requested "investment support" for a casino and other tourist attractions in North Korea's Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist zone.

Two anonymous USA officials told the Washington Post the Trump administration is "seeking a discreet way" to pay Mr Kim's hotel bill ahead of the meeting. "This is not blackmail but reality".

"I think he didn't realize who Donald Trump was at that time", Rodman said.

The second objective of Kim that he wants to achieve from the Singapore talks is removal of economic sanctions.

"My intention was to go over and be a sports ambassador to North Korea so people understand how the people are in North Korea".

Further, Davenport told Mic, the letter could be construed as calling for sanctions relief to North Korea only after its nuclear weapons have been dismantled and removed.
