North Korea Sanctions To Remain Until Denuclearization

President Donald Trump seemingly justified the brutal actions of North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, and said he thinks the two leaders "understand each other".

The summit in Singapore was the first-ever between a sitting leader of the United States and North Korea. He added that the meeting helped "push back that unfavorable scenario and raised prospects for solving all the problems with peaceful and diplomatic means". Putin reaffirmed his invitation to Kim to visit Russian Federation.

North Korean state media has released video of President Trump returning the salute of a North Korean general at the Singapore summit.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo speaks during a press conference at the Great Hall of the People on June 14, 2018 in Beijing, China.

Earlier Mr Trump boasted that his summit with Mr Kim had ended any nuclear threat from North Korea, though the meeting produced no details on how or when weapons might be eliminated or even reduced. They may also discuss efforts to recover the remains of soldiers missing and presumed dead from the 1950-53 Korean War. They also rejected any swift lifting of US sanctions amid claims by Pyongyang that Trump agreed to sanctions relief during his meeting with Kim Jong-un.

"I also want to thank China and President Xi for his role in helping bring North Korea to the negotiating table", Pompeo told reporters.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, one of the key architects of the North Korea-U.S. summit, . has been on a whirlwind tour of the region to explain the summit outcomes to regional powers.

Ordinary North Koreans consistently voice unequivocal support for the leadership when speaking to foreign media.

At the briefing, Pompeo reiterated that the shared goal of the US, South Korea and Japan is to get North Korea to denuclearize not only completely, but also irreversibly and verifiably.

"So have a lot of other people", Trump said.

It's possible North Korean officials during the talks at the border village of Panmunjom will seek a firm commitment from the South on stopping its military drills with the United States.

But he also said he would love to bring the U.S. military out of South Korea because of the cost, adding that while it was not now part of the discussion, "at the appropriate time, it will be". The three posed for photos before sitting with their delegations at three tables arranged in a U-shaped formation.

"To no one's surprise, North Korea used our President for their propaganda campaign", Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen said on Twitter. The next scheduled major exercise, involving tens of thousands of troops, normally would be held in August.

Frank Aum, a senior expert on North Korea at the U.S. Institute of Peace, told NPR that "Pompeo is correct that a significant portion of the denuclearization process could technically occur in two-and-a-half years", including the freezing of all nuclear and missile activities and the shutting down of known nuclear facilities.
