Meghan Markle's dad makes baby revelations in Good Morning Britain interview

He said he was "honoured" to let Charles take his place, but told Piers and Susanna of his regret at missing "one of the greatest moments in history".

Stepping out at a society wedding in rural England on Saturday, Meghan Markle's only rough patch looked to be when she stumbled on an uneven path and Prince Harry whipped out a steadying hand.

He recalled: "Harry asked for her hand on the phone and I said: "You are a gentleman, promise me you will never raise your hand against my daughter and of course I will grant you my permission". "That upsets me somewhat".

In the wide-ranging interview, the father of the bride also indicated he had disagreements with Prince Harry about President Trump.

Mr Markle said he hopes he has not offended his daughter and her new husband for taking part in the interview.

"It's unprecedented, actually, for the queen to take such a new member of the royal family on the royal train", Nicholl said.

"They were disappointed but they both said, 'Take care of yourself, we are anxious about you.' They said that the important thing was that I get better".

On Brexit he added: "It was just a loose conversation". I'll be ready to go.

He added that Meghan and Harry wanted him to walk her down the aisle "from the very start" and noted that Harry had given him advice on how to handle the encroaching press.

Britain's Prince Harry gestures next to his wife Meghan as they ride a horse-drawn carriage after their wedding ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle in Windsor, Britain, May 19, 2018. He told Meghan and Harry shortly before going in for heart surgery.

"He's great, an interesting guy, a prince, but my daughter's been a princess since the day she was born", he said.

"Over the last few weeks, everybody has had different opinions, some people said I was faking my heart attack, some people said I was skipping out, all kinds of stories were coming out about me, negative ones. I apologized for it", he said. "And I said, 'That's really nice.' And then the next call was like, 'He's British.' And I said, 'That's really nice.' And eventually the third time round was, 'He's a prince, '" Markle said. He said that after that incident, he was still planning to attend the wedding, but then could not because of his health. But he said his daughter would "rise to that occasion". "My daughter is capable of anything and she will be a compliment to the royal family".
