Cristiano Ronaldo scores early in Portugal's win, Morocco eliminated

Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored more global goals than any other European player in the history of football (85 goals for Portugal).

Ronaldo has now scored all of Portugal's four goals at this year's World Cup following his hat-trick in the 3-3 draw against Spain.

Portugal face Morocco on Wednesday afternoon in the second round of World Cup group games.

They took an early lead through Ronaldo, who has now scored all four of their goals at this tournament, a close-range header after Morocco failed to clear a corner at the near post, but struggled going forward after that.

And he claims there is no reason why the 33-year-old could not play at the next World Cup in Qatar in 2022.

"It is not just about Cristiano Ronaldo", Santos said.

"Like all the players at the World Cup, he wants to play every game", Renard said.

Uruguay was less impressive in its fixture, and needed Jose Gimenez's 89th-minute goal to snatch all three points against Egypt, which did not risk the recovering Mohamed Salah. "We have to play a very hard game against Iran and we want to top the group", he added.

Morocco goalkeeper El Kajoui kept his side in the game when he stuck out a strong left palm to repel a Goncalo Guedes effort following Ronaldo's lofted pass over the top.

Portugal defender Pepe said it was a "privilege" for the country to have a player like Cristiano Ronaldo after the Real Madrid star's dazzling display against Spain on Friday.

"We must do everything to make it a less exceptional game for him".

Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo shoots at goal from a free kick against Morocco at Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, on Wednesday.

Morocco will rue giving Ronaldo too much freedom in the six-yard box.

Moutinho came off and Adrien Silva was introduced for Portugal, who had to survive more scares when Ziyach's strike was brilliantly blocked by Pepe and Benatia fired over in stoppage time.

Earlier, Senegal secured a first win for an African nation at this tournament, benefiting from a bad error from Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to beat Poland 2-1 in Moscow.
