Musa double for Nigeria blows Group D wide open

Gernot Rohr according to the report by Sportinglife believes his players are still growing and added that the Super Eagles will get the experience to play at the World Cup in the next four years.

The Eagles flourished playing the 4-2-3-1 so much so that they qualified for Russian Federation 2018 with a game to spare.

President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates the Super Eagles on their victory Friday over the national team of Iceland in their second match at the Russian Federation 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria play Iceland on Friday.

Iceland can still throw a wrench into the final matchday proceedings with an upset of Croatia - which may be relying on reserves after already sealing a spot in the knockout stages - but the odds of Lionel Messi making a run into the knockout round received a huge boost with Nigeria's win Friday.

Gerhot Rohr brought on wing back Tyronne Ebuehi for Bryan Idowu at the start of the second half and Nigeria came out full of running.

But the Super Eagles were a completely different side in the second half and Oghenekaro Etebo could have put them ahead in the opening seconds, but his tame shot proved no problem for Hannes Thor Halldorsson in the Icelandish goal. Kelechi Iheanacho fed Victor Moses, who sprinted forward before lobbing the ball to Musa.

Earlier, NAIJ.com had reported how Nigeria kicked off their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign on a losing note following their 2-0 defeat to Croatia on Saturday, June 16.

Against Croatia, the former Racing Genk starlet was one of the most outstanding players on the pitch, finishing the match with a game-high five aerial duels won and was the top man in tackles. Musa gave Nigeria the lead in the 49th minute after his sensational first touch on a cross into the box set up an unstoppable half-volley.
