Meanwhile, after getting drafted second overall in 2017, Lonzo only played in 52 games for the Lakers a year ago, and averaged just 10.2 points and 7.2 assists.

The Lakers will be Rondo's fifth team in the last five seasons after spending the first eight-plus seasons with the Boston Celtics, which included a title in 2008 and being a four-time All-Star from 2010-13.

LaVar Ball is already clearing off space on Lonzo's trophy case - telling TMZ Sports he expects FOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS now that LeBron James is on the Lakers! That option was more affordable than the $4,000 Fanatics basketball signed by a more veteran Laker - Magic Johnson, as well as Larry Bird and Michael Jordan. He goes on to predict some "championships for the Lakers", claiming that LeBron's four year window gives them room to go four in a row. LaVar told TMZ, as quoted on Bleacher Report. However, when Johnson spoke to James and James' camp at the opening of free agency, James assured the Lakers that this was a long-term play for him and his decision wouldn't be affected by a single transaction the Lakers could make under time pressure.

On top of that, Leonard will be an unrestricted free agent next summer-at which point L.A. can pitch him on joining forces with James without having to empty its asset-filled treasure chest.

Whereas Irving was an established star when James returned to the Cavs in 2014, Ball is coming off a rookie season in which he showed some of the all-around skills that made him the No. 2 overall pick but didn't exactly take the National Basketball Association by storm. The King will be 34 in December and this could very well be the last team he plays for but it won't be the last deal he signs. Neither can shoot all that well and both require the ball to be effective, which goes against the qualities the typical role player next to LeBron has had over the years. "He's just got that special gift", Ball said. Lonzo's not ball-dominant, where he's just dribbling the ball while you're watching him try to do a crossover and make a layup down the lane.

Since pulling off the major coup of adding the best player in the world to their ranks, the Lakers have been hard at work constructing a solid roster around James.

He raised his level of production in the postseason like he normally does by averaging 10.3 points, 12.2 assists, 7.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game as they reached the second round.
