Croatia Captain Modric Says 'Shame' Ronaldo Left Real Madrid

Super-agent Jorge Mendes says his client Cristiano Ronaldo will see out his career at Juventus after sealing a stunning £105m switch from Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, 33, penned a four-year contract worth £500,000 per week with the Serie A giants earlier this week when he called time on his nine-season spell at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, who originally wore the No 9 shirt at Real Madrid before taking the No 7 following Raul's departure in 2010, would have demanded the shirt number to continue his CR7 brand. "I think that the club and the president have done something extraordinary for Juve, but above all for Italian football". "I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand me". He won the Champions League four times with Real and was twice crowned La Liga champion. Added to that the likelihood that he will strengthen the team, it seems plausible that they will be more successful domestically and qualify routinely for the Champions League.

Ronaldo, 33, has nearly exclusively worn the No 7 shirt for both Manchester United and Real Madrid, wearing No 9 for the Spanish giants in 2009/10 when club legend Raul occupied his preferred number.

But he was unhappy with the way the tax authorities treated him in Spain.

Unconfirmed media reports last month said Ronaldo had agreed to pay a fine of €18.8 million ($22 million).

Portugal was eliminated by Uruguay in the round of 16 of this year's tournament in Russian Federation.

Ronaldo is now on vacation in Greece following Portugal's elimination from the World Cup.

"It was Cristiano Ronaldo who was the first to believe in this operation, the first to launch it".
