Brazil goalkeeper Alisson makes Liverpool switch

Liverpool on Thursday signed Brazil goalkeeper Alisson from Roma in a world record deal valued at 72.5 million euros by the Italian club.

Revealing the Anfield atmosphere during Liverpool's thrilling 5-2 Champions League semi-final first leg win over Roma had helped make up his mind, Alisson said: "That game definitely did have an influence but I also watched other games".

The new Liverpool shot-stopper started all five games for Brazil at the World Cup in Russian Federation where they bowed out in a quarter-final defeat by Belgium.

And three-time World Cup victor Pele is also hoping Alisson can thrive at Anfield, as the 77-year-old sent a message to his compatriot on Twitter.

Liverpool FC will be looking to at least challenge for the Premier League title next season after they finished in fourth place in the table and without a trophy last term.

Gianluigi Buffon has always been the most expensive goalkeeper in history after joining Juventus from Parma for 53 million euros in 2001.

Since 2001, the world record transfer of a goalkeeper had been set by Gianluigi Buffon's £32.6m move from Parma to Juventus until a year ago.

"The full package is just too good".

The deal, believed to be worth £68M, smashes the world record for a goalkeeper in football. "The owners were quite excited, so we did it".

Unlike the Reds' two full-backs, however, Alisson is likely to be rotation-proof and comes in at £0.5m cheaper than van Dijk, who, it should be said, failed to score in the league last season. He has nothing to do with the price, we have nothing to do with the price, it's the market, that's how it is and we will not think a lot about it.

"But of course he still has to adapt and age-wise he can improve, the best years are coming in the goalkeeper life, so it's all good". "I don't think many people have realised who Alisson is", Negrisolo told newspaper "Il Romanista".

That is undeniably true, and fans will soon see just how good their latest signing can be. Putting our friendship to one side and the time we spent together with the national team, I'm really happy to be at the same club as him and have the same daily routine as him.

It is hard to divorce goalkeeping statistics from the defences they play behind, so it is not worth stewing over clean sheets or goals conceded.
