Upcoming Doctor Who Will Reset the Franchise

Upcoming Doctor Who Will Reset the Franchise

The 10th season largely wrapped-up over a year ago, with only a Christmas Special since to bring to an end the tenure of Steven Moffat as showrunner and Peter Capaldi as the Doctor. The show had its panel at San Diego's Comic-Con on Thursday, and now the new, expanded trailer has arrived.

In addition to a new Doctor, the rest of the season will get a nice refresh. Chibnall called Tennant the day before the announcement and said, without revealing who had been cast, if the person playing the new Doctor could call him. But anyone could and should be able to channel that madness if they look as comfortable holding a new sonic screwdriver as Whittaker does. "The wonderful thing about playing the Doctor is I'm playing an alien, so all those rules [about how women are expected to act] are irrelevant to the approach", she explained.

"That's why this role will be layered and fascinating to play", she added.

Jodie Whittaker has ruled out the possibility of a gender pay gap controversy with the BBC's sci-fi series Doctor Who. And though the group, alongside producer Chris Chibnall and executive producer Matt Strevens, were on guard about spoilers, they did offer a few details about the upcoming season and made one new key prop reveal.

Mandip Gill, Jodie Whittaker and Tosin Cole pose during the Doctor Who: BBC America's Official panel during Comic-Con International 2018 at San Diego Convention Center on July 19, 2018 in San Diego, California. "You're dressing as the Doctor". "And she's whisped on this unbelievable adventure with these people that then become her family".

He also spoke of how this Doctor Who writing team was a ideal mixture of "the British way of working and the American way". "Less old stuff returning and more new treats". She then asks (presumably) her three new companions, named Graham, Yasmin and Ryan, "would you be my new best friends?"

One idea repeated by Whittaker, her fellow actors, and the producers is that the arrival of a new Doctor means the show is once again fresh and accessible to those unfamiliar with the program. Whittaker is the 13th Doctor of the science-fiction television series, which originally ran from 1963 to 1989 on BBC One and was revived in 2005.
