Giuliani: Everything released so far shows Trump is ‘absolutely innocent’

Trump's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., along with Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senior campaign aide Paul Manafort took part in the June 9, 2016, meeting with Nataliya Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer and acknowledged Kremlin informant.

Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani has angrily compared Michael Cohen, the president's former long-time lawyer, to famous traitors Benedict Arnold, Brutus and Iago.

When asked if Trump would be willing to talk about the Russian meeting with special counsel Robert Mueller, Giuliani said, "I still have my doubts about the people around Mueller" and said the president's team remained undecided about whether to agree to a sit-down conversation with federal investigators about that topic and others.

On that recording, released by Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis, Trump can be heard discussing with Cohen arrangements for payment of hush money to Playboy model Karen McDougal, who says she had an affair with Trump in 2006.

"Businessmen listen to nearly everyone who might be helpful, and by the way, they make pragmatic decisions about how to make bad stories go away", Issa added. Cohen is facing a federal criminal investigation as well as legal scrutiny for NY taxicab companies he owns.

Trump has denied he had any knowledge of the meeting and that it took place.

Trump's lawyer/spokesman Rudolph W. Giuliani appeared on Fox News's and CNN's morning shows on Monday to downplay the idea that colluding with the Russians would have even been illegal and to argue against strawmen.

Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney says the US president knew in advance of a June 2016 meeting in which Russians promised to share dirt on then-election rival Hillary Clinton, US media reported Thursday.

Trump accused Cohen of "trying to make up stories" to help him escape criminal charges after his home and office were raided by federal law enforcement authorities. Cohen, he said, is in "grave danger of being disbarred". "There are a lot of good things happening in this country", the congressman said.

Nunberg defended the president and said recent revelations of a taped conversation between Trump and Cohen was going "too far".

Giuliani told Fox he has hired technicians to determine if someone tampered with the tape, which cuts off abruptly.

Giuliani's comments echo similar statements made by other members of the Trump camp, including the president himself.

"There are 12 others - maybe 11 or 12 others - out of the 183 in which the president is discussed at any length by Cohen, mostly with reporters", he added.

'There's a lot there for them to investigate.

"Let me see if I can make it about as clear as possible", said Giuliani. As recently as May, Giuliani called Cohen "an honest, honorable lawyer".
