Legal implications of secret tape on Trump or Cohen unclear

CNN's sources said Cohen is willing to make those claims to Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation.

"Donald Trump Jr. has been professional and responsible throughout the Mueller and Congressional investigations", Trump Jr.'s attorney told the network.

The rebuttals came after a CNN report, widely followed by USA media outlets, that Mr Cohen is prepared to claim that the president knew about a now-infamous meeting in Trump Tower before the presidential election. Trump had also denied knowledge of that payment.

Following the report on the Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani told CNN's Chris Cuomo on Thursday that Cohen has "been lying for years. he's lied all his life", and said he doesn't "see how he has any credibility".

"Michael Cohen can't be believed unless it's corroborated five times", Giuliani told NBC News.

This week in the Russian Federation investigations: Michael Cohen goes rogue; what would it mean if it is determined he is telling the truth?

But after the release of the Trump-Cohen recording, Trump criticized his former attorney, saying on Wednesday, "What kind of a lawyer would tape a client?" "First off, we don't know where this came from, we don't know if this is anything Michael Cohen really is even willing to say because the response of his legal team was, "Not us, it didn't come from us" And then you don't even know if it's true", Christie said in an interview Friday with Stephanopoulos on "Good Morning America".

"Sounds to me like someone is trying to make up stories in order to get himself out of an unrelated jam (Taxi cabs maybe?)", Trump tweeted, referring to reports that the FBI is examining Cohen's businesses in New York's taxi industry as part of a separate investigation into the lawyer.

Giuliani also confirmed that Trump and Cohen have formally severed legal ties. More Dem candidates say they won't back Pelosi McCarthy on choosing the next Speaker: "I want it to be me" Judge rejects Trump attempt to dismiss emoluments clause lawsuit MORE told him of the offer from the Russians and that Trump approved going ahead with the meeting.

Whether or not President Trump knew about his son's meeting with Russians is one of the central unanswered questions in a wide-ranging investigation into possible Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election.

Goldstone said the information was "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

"The man is a liar", Giuliani says. There have been earlier suggestions, from elsewhere, that Trump knew about the meeting.

Should Mr. Cohen choose to cooperate with investigators, including Mr. Mueller, it's not clear what information he has that they could not gather for themselves or have not already learned on their own. The Times also reported in June that Trump personally dictated a misleading statement about the objective of the meeting, even after his aides repeatedly denied that he did so.

Jay Goldberg, another former Trump lawyer, argued Friday on CNN's "Erin Burnett Out Front" that Giuliani "immeasurably" damaged his case against Cohen with the sudden shift in tone.

Why would it matter if Trump knew about the Trump Tower meeting? . Trump has denied having an affair with Karen McDougal, the former Playboy model.

The man who may hold some of Donald Trump's deepest secrets is up for investigation, in news that will no doubt make the United States leader shiver.

"Robert Mueller and his gang of 13 Angry Democrats obviously can not find Collusion", Trump said during a new set of tweets, so "now they are looking at my Tweets (along with 53 million other people)".
