Trump calls on Sessions to end Mueller’s Russian Federation probe

The New York Times reported that Trump is pushing against the advice of his lawyers not to sit down for an interview with Mueller's team, citing three unnamed people briefed on the issue.

President Donald Trump listens during a meeting with inner-city pastors in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington on August 1, 2018.

Trump escalated his attacks against the Mueller-led probe early Wednesday, urging Attorney General Jeff Sessions to shut down the wide-ranging inquiry.

News reports that Mueller's office has requested an interview with Agalarov, who a year ago emerged as a key figure in possible efforts by the Russian government to coordinate with Trump's campaign.

Sanders said Trump wants Mueller's investigation concluded swiftly without intervention, though Trump has publicly mused as recently as May about interfering in the Department of Justice's oversight of the probe.

Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani recently offered up this argument on Fox & Friends: "I've been sitting here looking in that federal code trying to find collusion as a crime".

"There continue to be ongoing discussions", Sekulow said.

President Donald Trump on Thursday defended his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month and decried the "Russian hoax", speaking at a rally just hours removed from his top national security officials decrying Russian attempts to influence United States elections. "But we're still negotiating".

Scott, the co-founder of the New Spirit Revival Center church, was among a number of religious leaders from around the country who met with the president to converse primarily on the topic of prison reform.

"I have to wonder in that private meeting, one on one, whether he has pressure coming from another direction that we don't know about to try to get rid of this investigation", said Rangappa, who now is director of admissions and a senior lecturer at Yale University's Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.

Peter Carr, spokesman for the special counsel's office, declined to comment on Trump's Twitter post.

In the wake of the proposal by Mueller's team, Trump stepped up his assault on the special counsel investigation, tweeting Wednesday that the Justice Department should shut it down.

"This is a awful situation and Attorney General Jeff Sessions should stop this Rigged Witch Hunt right now, before it continues to stain our country any further", Trump tweeted at 9:24 a.m. during his "executive time" in the White House residence.

When Mueller first proposed a presidential interview in late December, Trump was keen to do it.

US intelligence officials are anxious Russian Federation and perhaps other foreign actors look to interfere in November's elections, just as Moscow did in 2016, members of President Donald Trump's national security team said Thursday. While prosecutors have said they will not present evidence in this trial about possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign, they may dig deeper into Manafort's connections with Russian and Ukrainian oligarchs, legal experts have said.

After more than a year on the job, Mueller should wrap up his probe, Giuliani said.

They did shift slightly on format, agreeing to accept some written answers, including on matters in which they want to preserve the ability to have Mr. Trump answer follow-ups in person.

The president's attorneys, instead, want Mueller to limit the scope of his questioning to questions centering on collusion with Russian Federation.
