Nonetheless, he did record an unintentional assist for Mandzukic's decisive second goal on the night.

Massimiliano Allegri was pleased with the way Juventus dealt with the occasion of Cristiano Ronaldo's home debut against Lazio, although he insists it will take time for the champions to settle.

Miralem Pjanic rifled Juventus ahead in the 30th minute with a shot from outside the area before the Turin side added the second in the 75th minute in untidy fashion.

The 33-year-old failed to score in his Serie A debut against Chievo Verona which ended in a 3-2 win for the reigning Italian champions last weekend.

As pointed out by several people, the forward didn't score a goal in his first three games of the La Liga season past year and got just one goal in his first eight games.

"We went from being frenetic at times to falling asleep at others".

"Cristiano has been with us for 15 days, he worked well in the defensive phase and proved to be a smart lad".

It appears that it takes time for Ronaldo to hit top form in a league season, not that he was playing against significantly weaker defences in Spain previous year.

World Cup victor Blaise Matuidi set up Ronaldo for the champions' first chance after 19 minutes but it was Germany global Sami Khedira who rattled the woodwork with Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha diving to clear a Bernardeschi angled drive. His debut, however, proved to be a hard one against Lazio who finished fifth in the Serie A and level on points with fourth-placed Inter Milan last season.

Ronaldo came close after 63 minutes but headed just wide after connecting with a Joao Cancelo cross and again threatened on 71 minutes but Strakosha tipped over.

"He is someone who goes forward very quickly, who is very mobile, we need to understand each other better".

The news was certainly a shot in the arm for fans of Lionel Messi, with whom Ronaldo is constantly compared and measured against in the battle for the "best player in the world" and "GOAT" tag.
