PM Imran Meeting With Provincial Secretaries of Punjab

Referring to the Supreme Court's suo motu notice of the late night transfer of the Pakpattan District Police Officer after he allegedly insulted first lady Bushra Bibi's family, the prime minister said it was a welcome development.

Domestically, Khan's announcement to opt for good neighborly relations, including with India, was welcomed across Pakistan.

The multilateral deal on the Iranian nuclear issue was struck between Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany and the European Union, and was adopted by the UN Security Council Resolution 2,231.

Khan thanked the Iranian supreme leader's support for Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination and the manner in which Pakistan's Independence Day was celebrated in Iran this year, the statement said, adding that Pakistan and Iran were "connected by inseparable bonds of historic, religious and cultural affinities".

This follows Pakistan's July 25 general election, which resulted in the election of Imran Khan as prime minister.

"But when I returned from Pakistan and some "nok-jhonk" [bickering] took place, the message from my friend [Imran Khan] came that "we want peace. you take one step and we will take two", said Sidhu.

Khan also briefed the attending journalists on his recent meeting with National Accountability Bureau Chairman Javed Iqbal.

PM Khan said none of his cabinet members was appointed permanently and could be shuffled on the basis of performance.

According to the official news release, Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar was also present during the meeting.

Meanwhile, former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani has said that Mr Khan should not meet Mr Pompeo during his visit and the country's foreign minister should instead meet his U.S. counterpart. "Ultimately, everything is related to economy, even foreign policy", he said. He alleged the previous government's claims of a civil-military divide was "propaganda" and did not reflect reality. Sindh, where the PPP has its government, and Balochistan, where a BAP-led coalition is in power, would be asked to enforce the new LG system under Article 140-A of the Constitution, he added.

During the marathon session, the prime minister turned down French President Emmanuel Macron's call twice.
