Marvel confirms more female-led superhero movies are in the pipeline

The comic book and movie powerhouse has released 10 pictures to EW in the U.S., which includes glimpses of Larson as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's strongest superhero, Jude Law as her mentor Mar-Vell, Ben Mendelsohn as the villainous Talos and a two-eyed, de-aged Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I really thought when they hired me, 'I am the worst choice for an action movie.' And I didn't know that I had a little Keanu Reeves in me! Turning Mar-Vell into a mentor that helps Carol understand how to reconcile the alien power within her human self is an interesting take on that, instead of Carol simply being a girlfriend-turned-accidental-bystander. This will be the first time a superheroine will lead a Marvel film. After Thanos wiped out half of humanity, Nick Fury sent an emergency message to Captain Marvel in the film's after-credits scene before disappearing, setting her up as a game-changer in the battle with Thanos.

MARVEL has revealed the first proper look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel.

Larson was, of course, swayed in the end: "Just seeing a character who says how she feels and says what's on her mind and doesn't let people stand in her way is incredibly empowering".

"This is not a superhero who's ideal or otherworldly or has some godlike connection", says Boden, who's the MCU's first female director.

Captain Marvel is set to be released in theaters on March 8, 2019.

Captain Marvel has a March 8, 2019 release directed by the writing/directing team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and stars Academy Award victor Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, with Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

You can find the full Captain Marvel feature over at EW, who will be releasing more exclusive content as the week goes on. Carol Danvers appeared briefly in "Avengers: Infinity War" and will also be in the upcoming "Avengers 4".
