Tropical Storm Florence A "Potential Threat"

Tropical Storm Florence A

Hurricane Florence weakened to a tropical storm this morning, but the system is expected to rebound into a major Category 3 storm it passes near Bermuda waters early next week. Currently, the storm as low chance of formation.

Florence should regain hurricane strength by the weekend.

Further down the road, should Florence make landfall, we will have the potential of heavy rain and gusty winds at some point during the latter half of next week and into following weekend. Philip Klotzbach, a hurricane meteorologist at Colorado State University, said eight hurricanes have passed within 100 miles of Florence's current location since 1950, and none of them have done much more than churn in the ocean.

The Bermuda Weather Service said: “Tropical Storm Florence is expected to strengthen into a hurricane again in the next 48 hours.

After Florence, at least two other storms are forecast to form in the Atlantic. The Weather Authority says the Atlantic Basin is producing a number of significant storms that could potentially affect life and property along the U.S. East Coast.

The risk of impact on the U.S. East Coast from Florence next week has increased, the Miami-based weather forecaster added.

The storm's path has indeed proven tricky to predict: While previous tracks called for Florence to take a more north-northwesterly approach, the latest track shows a flatter, more northwestern and western path.

Now is the time to beginning thinking about hurricane preparedness if you live along or near the coast. Wherever the storm goes, beach-goers could see some impacts as early as this weekend. Trim them now. Declutter drains and gutters.

"The tropics are becoming very active, which is typical since next week is the climatological peak of the Atlantic hurricane season". We will closely be monitoring its track in the coming days. Both are expected to become tropical storms in the next 24 hours and will be named Helene and Isaac.
