McIlroy fifth after putting woes as Bradley wins play-off — BMW Championship

Bradley topped Rose with a par on the first playoff hole to win the rain-plagued BMW Championship for his first PGA Tour victory in six years.

On a rain-soaked Aronimink-players teed off in threesomes early Monday morning after the final round was rained out completely on Sunday-Bradley and Rose emerged from a bunched leaderboard that included Tiger Woods, who finished three shots out of a playoff at 17-under.

He was tied with Xander Schauffele on the 18th hole of the third round Saturday when Schauffele's 8-foot par putt rimmed around the high side of the cup, giving him a bogey and Rose the lead.

Getty Keegan Bradley plays a shot from the bunker on the third hole during the weather-delayed final round of the BMW Championship at Aronimink Golf Club on September 10, 2018 in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. Rose's runner-up finish is projected to vault him to the world number one ranking.

"I just wish I could have enjoyed the moment maybe, and this just slightly dampens it".

"No 2 is an incredible spot to be in, and it's a week where there are many scenarios in play", he said.

The final FedEx Cup Playoff event before the Tour Championship Sept. 20-23 in Atlanta cost Jordan Spieth a berth in the season finale. He still was set for to be at the Tour Championship for the first time since 2013. It was glue coming out of that fringe there and then I under-read the putt a little bit.

"It's boyhood dreams", Rose added. "It's tough to go from being on Ryder Cup teams, being on Presidents Cup teams to being outside the top 100 in the world".

Five-time BMW championship victor Tiger Woods mounted another vintage charge, but a late back-nine stumble has been the story of his comeback season from spinal fusion surgery.

McIlroy finished up on 18 under par, two shots off the lead. I had missed over 10 cuts. "And I don't think that would have been good enough".

If the final round starts Monday and more than half the field completes the round, the BMW Championship would go into Tuesday if necessary to finish.

Spieth, 25, came into the week in the top 30 in points but couldn't recover from a second-round 71 in which he was one of just six players to shoot over par.

Perhaps most important of all to Woods - the Tour Championship offers another chance for a victory, where he will need to defeat just 29 players.
