David Luiz: 'I believe in Maurizio Sarri philosophy'

Maurizio Sarri will be preparing his team to face a tricky and robust Cardiff City side this weekend, as Chelsea prepare to welcome the Premier League new boys.

The Brazilian defender has had an up-and-down career during his two spells at Chelsea, being an integral part of Antonio Conte's Premier League title success of 2016/17, before falling out of favour with the Italian the year after. "For the moment, I'm really very happy to stay here". I think so (that this season is too soon for Chelsea), but I hope not.

"Chelsea is his home of course", Sarri stated when asked about Terry's potential return to the club as a coach.

"If there is a pitch and there are 11 players, I feel at home anywhere", Sarri said.

"I said before I want to give space to the young players", Sarri added.

Chelsea are back in action on Saturday when they host newly-promoted Cardiff City.

"We need another step, I think, to be the same level". I hope not. It's very hard.

"It is very hard to recover 30 points in one season, very hard".

"We need to improve".

Fabregas is likely to only be fit for a place on the bench, though, and could replace Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who picked up an injury on worldwide duty with England.

Mateo Kovacic is once again expected to partner with N'Golo Kante and Jorginho in a midfield that is looking increasingly settled as Maurizio Sarri settles on his 4-3-3 formation.

"I'm trying to stress this number to my players, just telling them this number, my experience in this situation".

"The feeling is always that we will win, and this is a great feeling, because I've been playing football for many, many years and if you feel that way every day, it means you're in the right place".
