Jimmy Butler Requests Trade from T'Wolves to Knicks, Nets, or Clippers

According to ESPN, Butler prefers the Clippers.

Word came out on Wednesday that Jimmy Butler is seeking a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves. According to Shams Charania, Butler has given Minnesota a list of "one-to-three teams" with whom he is open to signing an extension with. Players signed this summer can't be traded until at least December 15 (and, in specific instances, January 15), which greatly reduces Minnesota's flexibility to make the best deal it can for one of the league's elite wing players.

Beyond that, teams like the Sixers, Celtics and Lakers have odds on the board, even despite the fact that the well-publicized list does not include any of those franchises. Moving Butler now would nearly certainly set the franchise back, at least in the short term. Sources say the Clippers are emerging as the frontrunner to sign Kawhi Leonard.

However, the Clippers do have the best assets to offer the Timberwolves, and assuming Thibodeau is in win-now mode (which he likely is), a package from the Clippers would be the most favorable.

The Clippers have the flawless situation and have the trade pieces to get this done.

But what could a potential Timberwolves-Knicks deal look like?

If Jimmy Butler gets his wish, there's a good chance he will soon be playing in NY.

By July, Kanter's own status will be in question, since his contract expires after the 2018-19 season.

This would demonstrate a "look towards the future" mentality for the Timberwolves but the team is young and has time to grow together.

Butler's breakdown in relationship with some members of the Timberwolves is well documented, so it comes as no real surprise that he wants to be traded away.
