Ronaldo sees red in Juventus UCL debut

It is Ronaldo's first red card in 154 Champions league matches.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri believes VAR would have overturned Cristiano Ronaldo's red card in Wednesday night's Champions League 2-0 win over Valencia, and given his side an easier night.

The 33-year-old joined the Old Lady in a mega deal valued around £99 million from Real Madrid after spending nine seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu. Valencia were then awarded a penalty in stoppage time but Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny denied Daniel Parejo to preserve the Italians' clean sheet.

"Mostly because it was the 29th minute in the first half in a hard game, to find yourselves with 10 men for a red card, that was not right".

"I'm sure that Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus will appeal that".

Then, the moment the match will be remembered for - Ronaldo let frustration get the better of him and Murillo made the most of it, falling instantly.

"Cristiano was very affected for his sending off, I saw him crying", Marcelino, who spoke to Ronaldo after the episode, told Cope. It was easy to play with him because you didn't need to create a lot of chances.

In group E, former European champions, Ajax, will take on AEK Athens of Greece, while Portugal's Benfica will host Bayern Munich.

Ronaldo scored a staggering 451 goals in 430 appearances for Los Merengues and won two La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.

Ajax cruised to a 3-0 victory over AEK Athens in Amsterdam earlier in the day to sit atop the early standings, with Argentinian Nicolas Tagliafico scoring twice.

The Portuguese forward last season helped Real Madrid to an unprecedented third consecutive Champions League win, taking his total tally to five.

Pogba bossed midfield on the artificial pitch and fired United ahead in the 35th minute with a goal of the highest quality, while he added a second from the penalty spot just before the break.
