Sony announces PlayStation Classic in latest effort to take all our money

The original PlayStation was a turning point for the games industry, and by the time it was discontinued in 2006, it had sold more than 100 million units worldwide. Oh, and keep in mind that you'll also need to have a USB AC adapter for the PlayStation Classic as there isn't one included in the package.

Right now, we have found two retailers that already have PlayStation Classic pre-orders available, and at the time of this writing, pre-orders are still open. Is there a specific game you would like to see it ship with?

Following the trend of Nintendo's NES and SNES Classic consoles, Sony created a PS1 Classic console that will include games like the massively popular Final Fantasy VII.

Multiple versions of the PlayStation Classic will be offered on launch depending on which territory the system is sold in, with global and Japanese versions confirmed so far.

Move over, SNES Classic, retro console releases are moving into the 16-bit era of video gaming. The bundle, which is set to be nostalgic from instructions to box art, also contains two original PS1 controller - without thumbsticks or vibrations - meaning you can play with your buddies like you did nearly 25 years ago.

The mini console is approximately 45% smaller than the original PlayStation.

Sony notes that all of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original formats. The PlayStation Classic even apes some of the basic functionality of its Nintendo rivals, such as the ability to suspend your game by pressing the Reset button.

The US$59 (RM244.40) console went on to become the bestselling videogame hardware throughout the month based on a US market report from The NPD Group, beating the likes of PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

The console is now available for pre-order in Japan, Europe, the U.S., and United Kingdom ahead of its release December 3.

With the announcement of the PlayStation Classic, it's going to be a race to lock down those pre-orders.
