3 infants, 2 adults stabbed at unlicensed day care

A 3-day-old girl and a 1-month-old girl were stabbed in the abdomen, and a 20-day-old girl suffered cuts to her ear, chin and lip. The injuries were not considered to be life threatening, police said.

Two girls and a boy were stabbed, and police report one of the girls is in serious condition.

A sixth person was found in the basement of the day care center in the Flushing neighborhood.

Police said it was not immediately clear why she attacked the children and adults.

A female coworker and the father of one of the injured children were the two adults also attacked.

The suspect was taken into custody and then taken to New York-Presbyterian/Queens hospital with self-inflicted wounds. They are being treated at an area hospital.

Charges are pending. Police said a butcher knife and meat cleaver were found at the scene. The man who was injured had a child at the day care while the woman was a daycare employee, according to NBC New York.

Police have not yet determined a motive.
