Apple Watch Series 4 Teardown Reveals Larger Battery, Jam-Packed Tech Goodies

If you aren't moving, it waits about a minute and then calls emergency services, and sends a message to the person you designated as your emergency contact. The watch essentially vibrates, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert.

It would be interesting to know whether reviewers realized fall detection was disabled before testing it with Series 4.

In addition to this, several YouTube channels over the weekend posted videos testing the Fall Detector and how hard a fall has to be to trigger it.

Enabling Fall Detection sounds like a smart idea if you're anxious about taking a spill and needing help. The default setting does make sense, as older people are more prone to serious falls where they will need emergency assistance.

Now when you have a real tumble your Apple Watch can actually detect it.

So far, only the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given clearance, sending the iPhone-maker confirmation on September 11 - just one day before Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook took to the stage at the company's headquarters to announce the product.

However, if for some reason you can not respond to your Apple Watch, and you're immobile for about a minute, it will begin a 15-second countdown while vibrating and sounding a progressively louder alarm.

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

If you want to get technical, means this year's bigger model manages 977 sq mm of surface area compared to 740 sq mm in the Apple Watch 3. Many reported that they could not trigger a fall alert on objective, but it's not clear if all of them had the feature turned on.

If you're in the market for a smartwatch, and have a few dollars to spare, Series 4 offers more than any Apple Watch before it.

Apple said all falls are recorded in the Apple Health app (unless you reply that you didn't fall when your Apple Watch asks).

The iPhone maker is positioning the Apple Watch Series 4 as your go-to fitness tracking device.
