He’s back! Tiger Woods a victor again for first time since 2013

Woods had been troubled over the last decade not just by injuries, but also by embarrassing revelations about his sex life that led to divorce, caused sponsors to flee and smudged the clean-cut image he had cultivated even before he left Stanford to turn professional.

After walking off the 18th green, Woods was surrounded and hugged by other members of golf's elite, including Rose, the victor of the FedEx Cup playoffs, and Rickie Fowler, who was paired with Woods in the second round of this tournament.

Only when he was on the green, the last one to putt after Rory McIlroy tapped in for birdie, did it start to sink in. "Just considering where I've been, what I've had to dig through and fight through, the amount of help I had to have to get to this point".

"Simple math says that if I play a clean card, the guys behind me have to shoot 67 to force it into extra (holes)", Woods said.

"I just can't believe I've pulled this off". "Maybe Tiger's got another 40 majors to play". Woods finished second to Brooks Koepka.

Rose started the third round tied with Woods, but not for long.

In fact, the 42-year-old Woods' dramas far outstrip Hogan's and his fall from grace was as spectacular as any figure in sports history.

Rose, who is now the No. 1 golfer in the world, obtained the 2018 FedEx Cup crown and the $10 million prize despite finishing below Woods (tied for fourth).

But the world No 1 rallied back on the 18th to register a birdie to ensure he walked away as the FedEx Cup champion.

Woods was also on course to bag the overall FedEx Cup title until Rose hit a birdie on the final hole.

Billy Horschel (-9) was second and Dustin Johnson (-7) was third.

Woods won his first title in five years when he claimed the TOUR Championship in Atlanta, Georgia.

Stricker led wire-to-wire at Minnehaha Country Club after rain limited him to only seven pre-tournament holes.

Woods birdied his first hole - one of two birdies and three bogeys - with his place at the top of the leaderboard in little danger during the final round. He shared the lead after each of the first two rounds.

For those watching on TV, the back nine played out like a coronation ceremony for Woods, with the gallery masses seizing every opportunity to honor the icon with much-deserved applause.

The victory erased any last lingering doubts about Woods' ability to compete at the highest level, something he had served notice of with top 10 finishes at the British Open and US PGA Championships.

Stricker finished at 13-under 197, and match Paul Broadhurst for the tour victory lead.
