Brett Kavanaugh's attack on Democrats poses risk to Supreme Court

When Flake was asked if he would have requested the FBI investigation if he was running for re-election this year, he answered: "Not a chance". Kavanaugh has denied all the allegations. Chris Coons, both members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, launched a bipartisan effort last Friday to delay a confirmation vote on Kavanaugh for a week so the FBI could investigate the sexual impropriety claims made against him by Christine Blasey Ford.

In speaking to FBI agents, Deborah Ramirez detailed her allegation that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a party in the early 1980s when they were students at Yale University, according to a person familiar with the matter who was not authorized to publicly discuss details of a confidential investigation.

But he said Kavanaugh then accused the Clintons of revenge and the Democrats upset over Trump's 2016 election win of carrying out a smear campaign. We're starting to see the first round of independent polling, and it's likely the Supreme Court nominee and his allies won't like the results.

Ford also has said Judge was in the room when a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her. Judge has said he will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that will "confidentially investigate" sexual misconduct allegations against him and Kavanaugh.

Mitchell also pointed out that in addition to a discrepancy in the number of people at the party and other conflicting details of what unfolded there, all of the witnesses Ford named have either outright denied her claims or have not corroborated them.

"It has to be well beyond the initial very narrow scope of four witnesses, four individuals being interviewed", Coons said.

"As I watched him, part of me thought 'This is a man who believes that he did nothing wrong, and he is completely unjustly accused". Several Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans have mocked Democrats' focus on Kavanaugh's drinking.

Trump suggested "there are bad reports on everybody" present in the Rose Garden. But he also wants the FBI to investigate the charges from Christine Blasey Ford and as many as two other accusers.

Trump said he wants the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe "to be comprehensive".

The sex crimes prosecutor who questioned a California women accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault is explaining why she would not bring criminal charges against the Supreme Court nominee.

Coons and Flake said Kavanaugh's emotional but sharply partisan approach to his defense made them question his fitness for the highest court in the land.

He said the one thing he wants is speed, because drawing it out is "unfair" to Kavanaugh's family.

Mr Kavanaugh and another of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, who says Mr Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her when both were teenagers, testified publicly before the Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Supreme Court nominations require Senate confirmation.
