[Teams] Tottenham vs Barcelona: Confirmed Line-Ups From Wembley

Yes, Kane is still only 25 years old and has time on his side, but he will have his work cut out to get on Messi's level.

'To chase the game against Messi, Suarez, Coutinho, to be competitive in the second half [they are heroes]. It was a positive performance from Spurs as the sides played out a goalless second-half.

There is no doubt that Barcelona are prioritising the Champions League this season and the club and Lionel Messi have made that clear but the Argentine insists they will not be holding back in any competition.

Spurs' joy was short-lived as Barca restored their two-goal advantage five minutes later, with Messi turning home Alba's cross with a neat finish.

Harry Kane and Erik Lamela twice reduced Spurs' deficit, but Messi made the difference by scoring a double as the La Liga champions withstood a rousing finale from the hosts. He hit the post twice with near identical efforts at the start of the second half and it was one of those nights where the 31-year-old proved, once again, why he's the best player on the planet. "It will be tough because we've got to win the games".

Tottenham's fatigue is largely down to the World Cup exertions of many of Pochettino's players, but also a result of the lack of new additions during the summer. We were handicapped against Barcelona after conceding after one minute.

"We still need to play four games and we have in our hands to be or not in the next stage", Pochettino said.

The main area Barcelona can improve is defensively.

And that failure to invest bit hard against Barca, with key men such as Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen and Moussa Dembele all missing and Pochettino unable to call on anything like their quality as replacements.

Lucas Moura then forced Ter Stegen into a save from 19 yards out after picking up the ball in midfield and running at the defence on 81 minutes, and the Brazilian saw his goalbound strike from 10 yards out deflected wide of the left post by Lenglet three minutes later. Yet, Spurs had chances and took two of them, and they showed real desire to try and drag themselves back into the game.

Barcelona ran out 4-2 winners in the end at Wembley but Spurs almost forced a famous comeback after clawing the game back to 3-2.
