Ruby Rose is Batwoman In This Year's DC TV Crossover

Eventually, Rose will star in her own "Batwoman" series, set to hit the CW in the 2019-2020 TV season.

Let's skip the preamble.

Rose will be playing this female Caped Crusader for the three episode run of the "Elseworlds" crossover event, and has potential to have her own series down the road. The color scheme of her suit and cape also blends perfectly with her bright red hair, being the flawless live action adaptation of Batwoman that many DC fans have been asking for for years.

Production on the crossover commences Tuesday in Vancouver. Fans of Batwoman will be happy to see her vibrant red wig and lipstick, too.

One of the most prominent LGBT characters in comics, the Kate Kane Batwoman character first appeared in the 21st century as part of DC Comics' 52 series. This gorgeous version of the costume was designed by none other than frequent Tim Burton collaborator and four-time Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood! Decades later, she was rebooted as Kate Kane, an openly lesbian superhero.

The Kate Kane iteration of the character, which Rose will play, is a lesbian who professes the Jewish faith and is, in the comic books at least, romantically involved with Gotham City detective Renee Montoya. The three-episode crossover will air December 9, 10 and 11 on The CW.

Although details about the crossover are scarce, we do know a few things. Critics hailed the casting as "perfect", and Rose described the role as a "childhood dream".

After her casting was announced, Rose quit Twitter and deactivated the comments on her Instagram due to the online backlash she received for her casting.
