Mayweather responds to Khabib fight call

It's a question of what's next for UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after defeating Conor McGregor and a boxing matchup with Floyd Mayweather Jr has been touted.

The retired boxing champion replied Monday to a recent challenge from Khabib Nurmagomedov, the current UFC lightweight champ.

Nurmagomedov (27-0 MMA, 11-0 UFC) is coming off a dominant submission win over Conor McGregor in the UFC 229 main event to retain his title.

The Russian MMA star's father and trainer, Abdulmanap, has now added to the back-and-forth - and believes his son would stand a better chance of beating Mayweather than McGregor did when he lost via 10th-round stoppage to the United States fighter in their money-spinning bout in Vegas.

The statement came shortly after Mayweather told CBS, Showtime and MGM Grand to 'get the checkbook out'. Because in the jungle only one king.

But 30-year-old Nurmagomedov has poured water on that idea, having gotten into trouble with the Vegas authorities after the post-McGregor riot he instigated. We are two guys who never lose.

Nurmagomedov has not wasted any time in pulling some McGregor moves by firstly hinting at a switch to WWE before calling out Mayweather. Let's go. Why not? Let's go. Why not?

That extended Nurmagomedov's unbeaten mixed martial arts record to 27-0.

Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor on October 6 in a UFC fight and then climbed the cage and jumped at the men in McGregor's corner, setting off an extended brawl inside and outside the octagon. "Because he [Mayweather] can not drop McGregor but I drop him easily". McGregor's team had reportedly been trash talking Nurmagomedov and then Nurmagomedov's teammates jumped into the octagon to attack McGregor.

Mayweather's last outing was a lucrative boxing match against McGregor, so could Nurmagomedov be next in line?
