Cleveland Cavaliers, Larry Nance Jr. reach agreement on extension

The Cavaliers will open the regular season Wednesday against the Raptors.

The future of the post-LeBron Cleveland Cavaliers just got a little clearer.

Nurse summed up his first victory as "pretty cool".

"We have to do it by committee", Lue said. "We had a personality who was a huge leader in LeBron James, who brought it every single day, who put his time in, and was very vocal, and continued to grow in his sense as a leader". His jersey was retired by Cleveland in 1995, but the team chose to let the younger Nance wear it when he came over last season. "It's about finding a rhythm and getting games under my belt". "I'm happy we came out and got a win".

This early in the year, it's tough to tell who will have the advantage, though Nurse seems to believe the Celtics have a small edge here.

Nurse knows his team remains a work in progress.

Leonard played 37 minutes in first regular-season action since January 13 - the two-time defensive player of the year missed all but nine games because of a quadriceps injury in a weird season last year in San Antonio. "We hope that we're in this chase".

"I wanted this to be a building year and still be competitive".

Not only that, but it did it against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. Outside of the starting lineup, no unit played together for more than four minutes at a time, which means that it's going to take some time for the data to become plausible, the chemistry to develop, and player expectations for each night to normalize.

"Sometimes you find yourself playing around others". "We're going to need five or six guys in double figures and I think we have that ability". "So it's a win-win for me".

"So we know there's a really good team coming in here, healthy, and I know they're looking forward to this game also".

James could probably be forgiven for taking his talents to Hollywood. Taking his time, picking his spots, picking teams apart.

Here's what we learned from the season opener.

And it's not just the newcomers learning the returning players either.

Now that the megastar has taken his scoring and leadership skills to the Los Angeles Lakers, Love will begin his 11th season as the Cavs No. 1 option on offense and a senior voice in the locker room. Only all four other Raptors on the floor were nearly stationary. But more than that, can he help the Cavaliers play decent basketball?

A pair of Raptor hopefuls who didn't quite make the grade this time around aren't going far as it turns out.

Both were in a battle for a two-way contract through the pre-season with the parent club but lost out to Montreal's Chris Boucher.

The Cavs sliced the deficit to seven points with 3:08 to play.

Moreland is a big bruiser who plays a physical game. He is set to make around $9.6 million in the final year. The Celtics are 12-3 SU in their past 15 meetings with NY, including a 6-2 SU mark in eight visits to Madison Square Garden, covering in five of those outings. The forward/center averaged 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds and was named to the NBA's all-rookie second team.
