Texas police identify woman, child in doorbell video

A woman could be facing charges after abandoning a friend's child on a stranger's doorstep at a Texas home Wednesday.

She then leaves the boy along with two bags, thought to be his belongings, before returning to a auto and leaving.

A woman who answered the door found the child she had never seen before, along with two bags and no adult, the sheriff's office said.

The woman apparently mistook the house for the home of the child's father, who lived next door, "then left [the] location without verifying anyone was home or who she was releasing the child [to]", the sheriff's office wrote on Facebook.

They are still trying to find the woman in the video. After being shown the video, the man said he was the boy's father. Authorities say it will be up to CPS on if the child will be returned to his parents.

Spencer said that the woman in the video has been identified, but she has not yet been found or interviewed by the sheriff's office.

The woman approaches the door holding the toddler by the arm. Child Protective Services responded to the scene and took him into custody, but the toddler was reunited with his father later. The incident lasted 23 seconds, police said.

A resident of a home in the Conroe-area community called sheriff's office deputies about 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday after finding the young boy on their front doorstep.

"If that was her child, she wouldn't have left him", Simmons said, according to the Houston Chronicle.

When the boy was not dropped off, the father assumed plans had changed and left the home for the night. He is now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Investigators say the woman could face a felony charge for child endangerment.

Authorities said the child had been dropped off not only after the father had left, but at the wrong doorstep.

The sheriff's office will continue to investigate.
