Utah Track Star Athlete SHOT To Death By Ex Boyfriend!

She was an outstanding student with a 3.75 GPA majoring in Communication and was excited to graduate in May 2019. McCluskey "will always be part of the track team family", he said. "She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed".

The university canceled classes Tuesday and a campus vigil for McCluskey is scheduled at 5 p.m.

McCluskey was a role model beyond the track in the way she engaged with the community and achieved excellence in her studies.

McCluskey reported receiving numerous emails and messages using different names trying to lure her to locations.

"We have university counsellors and psychologists on standby to support Lauren's teammates, coaches and friends".

According to KSL, McCluskey was a student-athlete from Pullman and was on the track and field team.

"There is no normal reaction to something like this", she said, crying. "Now you have to leave a legacy as well and take care of each other". After the breakup, Lauren asked for help from the University of Utah police to retrieve her vehicle from Melvin, who was borrowing it.

"She was an unbelievable, genuine and caring person, and she will be really missed", Weidle told the Salt Lake Tribune.

Salt Lake City police say the 37-year-old Rowland killed himself overnight at a church after police tracked him down after the shooting.

McCluskey's relatives told KSTU that she and Rowland had dated for about a month before she learned about his past and ended their relationship on October 9. However, the college student broke off the relationship earlier this month after a friend revealed Rowland's criminal history. She subsequently ended the relationship on October 9. He said McCluskey met Rowland at a bar where he was working security and started dating him. He had borrowed her auto, and she requested for the University of Utah police accompany her on October 10, 2018 to get her vehicle back.

It wasn't until later that her parents would learn their daughter had been shot and killed on campus about 9 p.m.

"She shared her heart with me and that meant the world to me", said Joyce Rudeen, McCluskey's grandmother. Jill McCluskey never hung up the phone and, after a few minutes of keeping the line open, a woman picked up the phone and said all of Lauren's items were on the ground. McCluskey's body was found in a vehicle near the university's medical towers. Witnesses say he fled the scene on foot. He was found dead hours later after killing himself inside a church Tuesday, authorities said. Eve Fortenbery, a friend of the family, stopped mid-sentence to watch the feline near McCluskey's memorial wreath. Jackson went on to say that "this is a time to come together, to not let this tragic event extinguish the light of Lauren".

In the early stages of the investigation, they didn't have enough information to pass on to any other law enforcement, Brophy said, adding that there were no indications from McCluskey that Rowland was threatening physical violence.

Police were investigating the case as sexual extortion and knew Rowland was a sex offender but not that he was on parole, Brophy said.

Attendees said the things they loved most about McCluskey were her kindness, her dedication and her honesty. Once she was in the auto, Rowland shot McCluskey multiple times.
