The bomber detonated an explosive vest and after approaching several official vehicles close to the election commission, the statement said. The number of people who were present at the site at the time of the attack is not clear.

Meanwhile, Afghan sources announced that famous commander of Taliban Molla Mahmoud and two others were killed in a conflict with army forces in Pichiragam district, Nangarhar.

Elections in Kandahar were delayed after the provincial police chief Gen. Abdul Raziq was assassinated in a shootout just two days ahead of the scheduled national October 20 election day.

On the first day of the elections, 15 people were killed in a suicide attack in the capital Kabul.

Saturday at 1,113 polling stations throughout Kandahar, but early reports said scores of polling stations were late opening because staff did not show up or election materials were not readily available.

On Saturday voters in Kandahar - the southern birthplace of the Taliban and a province notorious for ballot stuffing - went to the polls.

The incident happened at about 8:15am local time in PD9 in Kabul city, a spokesman for Kabul police chief confirmed. "We want to vote and will do so even at the risk of our lives", has insured with the AFP Samiullah, an elector of the city of Kandahar.

While preparations had been "better" in Kandahar compared with the previous weekend, hiccups with biometric devices and voter lists persisted. More than 2,500 candidates are competing for the 250 seats in the lower house.

Voting in parliamentary elections has been completed in 33 of the country's 34 provinces.

In 2016, the election was postponed over unstable security situation in the country, where various militant groups, including the Taliban and the Islamic State, carry out regular terrorist attacks and fight for power against Kabul.

Ibrahimi said 111 candidates were vying for 11 seats in Parliament from southern Kandahar in Afghanistan's 249-seat chamber.
