Denver Broncos Trade Demaryius Thomas To Houston Texans

Several Broncos players expressed such sentiment Tuesday following the team's decision to trade the veteran wide receiver to the Houston Texans during the National Football League trade deadline.

The Broncos will also send a 2019 seventh-rounder to Houston and will receive fourth and seventh-round picks in the 2019 draft. Fellow wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, cornerback Chris Harris, center Matt Paridis and others joined Broncos officials in honoring Thomas upon his exit. "He developed into an elite player over the years, establishing himself as one NFL's most productive, consistent and reliable wide receivers".

This week, the Broncos host the Texans, meaning Thomas will likely play against his former team at Mile High Stadium.

The Eagles announced they had acquired Golden Tate from the Detroit Lions, reportedly for a third-round pick, shortly after the Thomas news broke. He has five consecutive seasons of at least 90 catches and 1,000 receiving yards.

Thomas, of course, was on the hook for $8.5 million this season ($4.5 million of which will be picked up by the Texans), and has a non-guaranteed $14 million base salary for the 2019 season.

The Texans have a need at wide receiver after Will Fuller was lost for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee, suffered during the team's win over the Dolphins on Thursday night. Luckily for Thomas, he won't have to start looking for a house in Houston until next week, since the Broncos are actually hosting the Texans this coming Sunday. One ancillary benefit of this trade is that the Texans just so happen to be playing the Broncos this weekend, which helps in two ways.
