Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Multiplayer Launches Tomorrow

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Multiplayer Launches Tomorrow

This online mode is scheduled to go live today as early access for those who have the ultimate edition of the game.

The highly anticipated multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2 has released today in beta for owners of its Ultimate Edition, but Xbox One players have been left disappointed by an issue that prevents them from accessing Red Dead Online. The next day, Thursday November 29, those who played the game on October 26 according to Rockstar's records will be allowed to venture online. The bad news? The release is staggered - but you can find out more about that in our Red Dead Online release date explainer.

For those who belong to the two groups in the middle, you'll need to be signed into your PSN account and your Rockstar Social Club account.

Interestingly, Rockstar has opted to launch the online component with little detail as to exactly what players will be able to do beyond the obvious: customise their character, get into firefights, attack missions cooperatively with up to seven other players, and receive challenge missions exclusive to the online mode.

Friday, November 30th: All players who own Red Dead Redemption 2.

With the gameplay of Red Dead Redemption 2 as its foundation, Red Dead Online transforms the vast and deeply detailed landscapes, cities, towns and habitats of Red Dead Redemption 2 into a new, living online world ready to be shared by multiple players. "As with any Beta period, we plan to take the time necessary throughout to make Red Dead Online a complete, fun and fully-functional experience, which may take several weeks or months as we continually work to fix bugs, improve systems and implement player feedback into current or future plans". Players, including ourselves are getting thrown out of the servers back to the main menu.

Explore the world solo or with friends. And because this is 2018, Red Dead Online contains something that looks a lot like a battle royale.

Red Dead Redemption 2 hit store shelves on October 26 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Red Dead's weapons might not have made for the slickest gunplay in comparison to its battle royale competitors, so leaning into something more low-tech could prove an effective twist on the formula.
