Everyone's Joking About 'Individual 1' After Cohen's Plea Agreement

Cohen once famously vowed he would take a bullet for Mr Trump, but in April this year the pugnacious attorney's home and office were raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Following Michael Cohen's guilty plea on Thursday for lying to Congress, Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., said Cohen and Roger Stone, an informal Trump campaign advisor, need to testify before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Schiff said the guilty plea raises more concern about other Trump associates: "We believe other witnesses were also untruthful before our committee", he added.

But now Cohen isn't solving problems for Trump, he's causing them.

Cohen's plea documents focus on what he told Congress about his work on a Trump Tower project in Moscow, and in them, special counsel Robert Mueller revealed that Cohen briefed Trump's "family members" who work for the Trump Organization about the project.

Once known as Trump's "pit bull" and right-hand man, Cohen was privy to multi-million-dollar deals and payments to two alleged lovers - whose claims could have potentially sabotaged his boss's 2016 election. In fact, Cohen told a federal judge, negotiations to build a Trump hotel there continued through most of the 2016 campaign, and Cohen had lied about it to Congress to protect "Individual 1", the owner of the company he worked for, which is to say, Trump.

The timing was not lost on Trump's lawyer handling Mueller's criminal investigation.

"I'm the guy who stops the leaks", Cohen said in an interview previous year with Vanity Fair.

Asked Thursday about the plea deal, Trump dismissively said that Cohen "was convicted of various things unrelated to us".

During the campaign, Cohen acted as Trump's point person in an attempt to build the Trump development in Moscow.

He also admitted lying about his contacts with Russian officials, and about discussing whether he or Trump should travel to Russia in connection with the project. Prosecutor say Cohen is cooperating with Mueller and has met with his team at least seven times.

US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen leaves the US Courthouse in NY on April 26, 2018. "I said I would confirm and revert".

The President defended the deal for a possible Trump real estate venture in Moscow.

Cohen began talking to investigators working for Special Counsel Robert Mueller, whose probe has been a thorn in Trump's side, after pleading guilty in August to bank fraud and campaign finance violations in NY.

The document does not identify Individual 2, but people familiar with the investigation said it is Sater.

No exact date was given, but we were assured this meeting happened and that this was the smoking gun the media knew was out there to prove Trump colluded with Russian Federation to steal the 2016 election.

In a press scrum outside court moments after the hearing, Cohen said nothing to reporters.

Trump has denied publicly that he had any knowledge at the time and said as much in written answers recently given to Mueller's office, according to reports on Wednesday.

Trump and his son Donald Trump Jr. have admitted that campaign leaders went into the meeting expecting material that would be useful against the Democratic presidential nominee but said that this is common practice in politics and that nothing came from it.

Democratic Representative Jerrold Nadler, of NY, left, now the incoming Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, speaks as Democratic Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, of Texas, center, listens during a news conference on Capitol Hill, on May 24.
