Spider-Man: Far From Home - Jake Gyllenhaal Teases Mysterio

Gyllenhaal has joined Instagram, and his first post is very much a tease over his role in Far From Home.

And the excitement does not end there.

Jake Gyllenhaal has confirmed his long-rumoured involvement in Spider-Man: Far From Home in his first-ever Instagram post.

Though this is Sony's third take on Spider-Man, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield having previously portrayed the webslinger in the Spider-Man trilogy and The Amazing Spider-Man respectively, the current Spider-Man is the first to be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man", reads the caption. His appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home marks the character's live-action debut.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed the 2019 sequel will take Peter Parker out of NY for a European adventure in London that will reflect the global aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

The film will see Tom Holland return to play Spider-Man and Zendaya as Michelle Jones. A trailer is expected to arrive before Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse hits cinemas on December 14 - and perhaps even as early as this Saturday - and in that context, it makes sense for Gyllenhaal to start teasing his role before the trailer unveils just what he looks like in the movie. Created by the late Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the villain is a special-effects wizard, if you will. Quentin Beck is a Hollywood special-effects artist and stunt man who decides that he wants to put his heart into being a super-villain instead.
