Super Smash Bros Ultimate Is Fastest Selling Nintendo Console Game Ever

Three older Switch titles have sold more than 4 million units: the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 4 million copies, Mario Kart 8 has sold 5 million copies, and Super Mario Odyssey has sold 4.7 million copies.

While there are more Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox consoles now on the market, the Switch has outpaced "all other current-generation systems" since its debut in March 2017, NPD reported. That should come as a surprise to no one, though - Smash Bros 4 and Brawl were among the top-selling titles on each of the last three Nintendo consoles.

According to the latest press release, the from its launch in March 2017 through November 2018, the Nintendo Switch has sold more than 8.7 million units to outpace all other current-generation systems at the same point in their life cycles.

According to Nintendo, Smash Bros Ultimate is now the fastest-selling Switch game ever, with 3 million units sold in 11 days on the market.

Nintendo also revealed updated numbers for the Switch console and other games.

No mention was made of the Switch Online service, which launched in September and is required to play Super Smash Bros. Total European sales over the game's first three days were nearly 30% higher than Mario Kart Wii, which went on to ship more than 37 million copies worldwide. Ultimate is now the fastest-selling game in the Super Smash Bros. series in the well.

Nintendo eShop sales have grown 105 percent over 2017. The Japanese gaming company has sold 8.7 million units of the Switch in just 21 months in stores, despite the machine being very limited when it was first released.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! have combined to sell two million units while Super Mario Party has been purchased 1.4 million times in the US. Along with strong sales at retail, Super Smash Bros.
