Ex-Celtic Isaiah Thomas blasts Spurs fans for booing Kawhi Leonard

Ex-Celtic Isaiah Thomas blasts Spurs fans for booing Kawhi Leonard

The San Antonio Spurs coach had little interest in talking about Leonard on Wednesday (Jan 2), one day before the team's former star returns to the city as a member of the Toronto Raptors.

"I'm waiting to see", said Danny Green, Leonard's former Spurs and current Raptors teammate.

Leonard was booed throughout the game, culminating with Spurs fans chanting "traitor" as Leonard shot free-throws in the second quarter.

Despite all of that, the lasting memory for many Spurs fans is how things ended - a mysterious falling out between player and team that centred on Leonard's recovery from a quad injury and ultimately led to his trade demand over the summer. In one of his first tweets after the trade to San Antonio, DeRozan might have had this game in mind. But the final chapter of his nine-year career as a Raptor certainly didn't play out as he would have scripted.

Asked whether he expected a negative reaction when Leonard is introduced, Mill expressed optimism. Things like that will only get me better for the long run. It doesn't matter who we're playing.

The nine-year Raptors legend who cemented himself as a fan favourite during his tenure in Toronto waited for his first ever game against his former squad to post his first career triple-double, overshadowing the returns of two players who helped lead the Spurs to their most recent National Basketball Association title.

"This was really disappointing for all of us, from Pop and our program to our players", Buford told ESPN. "You've got to love to play in that type of atmosphere, whether it's at home or on the road".

Thomas, who signed a one-year contract with the Nuggets in the offseason, appeared to criticize Spurs fans on Twitter. But Leonard's unhappiness and request for a trade stunned the organization.

What happened, happened-Leonard felt it was best to move on from San Antonio after he didn't like how the team handled his decision to sit out. "It was just a fun game".

"I feel good except for losing the game".
