Gonzalo Higuain's agent touches down in London as Chelsea step up interest

According to Marca, Higuain's transfer to Chelsea will be approved in the coming days with Alvaro Morata set to leave the club as the Argentine comes in.

The Spanish striker has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and appears to have lost the confidence of Sarri.

Now Chelsea are closing in on finalising a move which will see the striker continue his career in the Premier League.

When asked about Chelsea's interest in Higuain, Leonardo said: "There's no point following rumours and gossip".

With Alvaro Morata struggling for form and Olivier Giroud injured, Chelsea have confirmed their interest in the England global. But, none of the strikers have displayed the qualities required to lead the line for a top class side like Chelsea, who have been heavily reliant on Eden Hazard as a result. But Chelsea are believed to be willing to offer Morata as a makeweight in the deal.

There is likely to be a hold-up, as Milan will need to sign a replacement, although they have Financial Fair Play troubles looming too.

Chelsea are not prepared to sell Morata in January, mindful of the fact that his underwhelming performances at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Real Madrid in the summer of 2017 ensure he will not attract offers anything like the £58 million they paid to sign him.

He scored 40 league goals in two seasons for them, but left for Milan in the last close season after Cristiano Ronaldo's arrival in Turin.

Higuain is now on loan at AC Milan and any deal would require them to terminate his deal early - however, it contains an obligation to buy the striker in the summer for £32m.

However, Chelsea only want to sign the Argentina on a shorter terms deal and are not keen on paying a substantial fee for the 31-year-old.
