Spurs star Kane out until March with ankle injury

Kane also is sure to miss the second leg of Tottenham's English League Cup semi-final against Chelsea, as well as the February 24 final should his team advance.

"The striker will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March".

Harry Kane's latest ankle injury is likely to keep him out of action until March, but the Tottenham striker is aiming for a return to fitness sooner than that.

Kane is also set to be absent for Tottenham's Premier League clashes with Chelsea and Tottenham.

He received treatment after the full-time whistle before walking off the pitch clearly in severe discomfort.

"Injuries are part of the game", Kane said in a tweet, "but no one will be working harder to get back fit". Thanks for the messages.

Spurs - already without Son Heung-min as he is on global duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup - will also have to cope without leading goalscorer Kane for a number of Premier League games.

Of the other options in Tottenham's squad, Fernando Llorente has made just two starts this season - one each in the Carabao and FA Cups - although did score four goals in those appearances.

Borussia Dortmund will visit on February 13 for the first leg of a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match.

Kane's injury and Son's absence at such a critical time in the season will truly be a test for Spurs, and Jan Vertonghen, who spoke to The Guardian, believes that now is the time for the rest of the squad to step up.

England boss Gareth Southgate will hope Kane is back in contention for England's opening Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic on Mar 22.

Kane damaged his ankle ligaments in September 2016, March 2017 and March 2018.
