Mourinho says he lacked help in United job

While the feel-good factor appears to have been restored at United, Martial admits Solskjaer has played the role of disciplinarian when required during his four weeks at the helm.

Mourinho was dismissed by United last month after a rancour-filled final few months in the job amid media reports of conflicts with players.

"Any manager coming in after Mourinho couldn't have done any more - the results and performances indicate that whatever way he has done it, and I don't know what way that is, he's got results".

Jose Mourinho has said finishing second in the Premier League with Manchester United was one of the best achievements of his career.

Mourinho defended himself against suggestions of negative football, pointing to his track record of success.

"The club without the structure, which creates a situation where the player is not anymore in a situation of a direct relation with the manager, but instead a relation with the structure". And this is a structure that can cope with all the modernity that football brings us. "Where the manager is only the manager and not the man that is trying keep the discipline and trying to get the players".

Mourinho also discussed the issue of player power, suggesting clubs need to protect their coaches with a director of football - something United are trying to implement at Old Trafford.

"The way we are playing we have more possession of the ball", said Pogba.

Rashford has turned his form around since Solskjaer's arrival, and combined with Pogba for United's goal in their 1-0 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

The ex-United player has won all six of his games in charge since taking over as caretaker manager after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

"I want to coach".

"Where I am going to stay is where I belong". He said: "I am too young, I am in football for a long, long time but I will be 56 in a couple of weeks and am really too young".
