Trump Discussed Russia Tower Deal Into Late 2016, Giuliani Says

SAUL LOEB/AFP/Getty Images Tara Dowdell, who appeared on The Apprentice with Trump before he became president, said on Joy with Joy Reid: "Every week Rudy Giuliani gets on TV and confesses another crime".

The pair defended a story published on Thursday that said President Donald Trump directed his longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about a potential hotel construction project in Moscow.

Yes, Jeff. That's exactly it.

The unusual situation is complicated by the fact that the United States has imposed a series of sanctions on Russian Federation due to alleged meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election with Robert Mueller investigating those claims, as well as allegations of collusion between Trump's campaign team and Moscow.

At the time, Cohen told members of Congress that the deal never progressed beyond an initial "letter of intent" and it was halted in January 2016, before the Iowa caucuses.

Mueller issued his first public statement in more than a year to repudiate the report, flatly asserting that BuzzFeed's story was "not accurate".

Giuliani told Fox News that Trump "had several conversations with Michael Cohen about the Trump Tower proposal. But the president's recollection of it is that the, the thing had petered out quite a bit".

In an interview with ABC News' Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in December, Giuliani said Trump was having conversations with his former personal attorney Michael Cohen about the project up until and around November 2016.

The latest disclosure extends that timeline right up to the presidential elections in November. A presentencing memo from Cohen's lawyer, Guy Petrillo, said Cohen had made the statement out of a desire to be loyal and consistent with Trump's wishes to minimize his involvement.

Former federal prosecutor Mimi Rocah said Monday on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House" that all the emerging evidence about President Donald Trump's ties to Russian Federation and his apparent efforts to obstruct justice makes her believe that there is a criminal conspiracy at the center of issue. "Why, two years after the fact, are we just learning this fact now when there's been this much inquiry?"

"Imagine if a conservative outlet did this and ran with a story this flimsy and the Special Counsel's Office came out and said 'Actually this is not accurate.' Would they be allowed to go on CNN and be asked 'How does it make you feel?' They wouldn't; they would be condemned and they would be done", she said. "My comments did not represent the actual timing or circumstances of any such discussions".

He has already agreed to appear publicly before the House Oversight and Reform Committee on February 7, and Schiff has expressed interest in bringing Cohen back to the House Intelligence Committee for an interview behind closed doors. So anytime during that period they could've talked about it.
